Answers
1. D. 2.5-5mg or 1-2 puffs
Cannabis can affect everyone differently and has widely varied strengths per strain, so it’s recommended to start low and go slow. It also depends on how you’re taking it. If smoking or vaping, try 1-2 puffs and give it 15 minutes to see how you go. Try another 1-2 puffs if you haven’t reached your desired effect yet. If ingesting, start with a measured 2.5-5mg and wait an hour or two before taking more. For sublingual mediums, wait 45-50 minutes.

2. C Inhaling
Smoking is the most common way to take weed, although it’s very normal to see edibles and sublinguals like oils now, too. Bonus fact, cannabis is the third most widely taken drug in NZ after caffeine and alcohol.

6. A If you can sing like Bob Marley
Like most substances, set and setting play as much a part of your experience as the chemicals in your stuff. How you’re feeling and where you are will have an effect on how your weed hits.

7. D Munchies (although Snacky Attacky is brilliant)
The cannabinoids in cannabis interact with specific receptors in the body, including those on the tongue. When activated, these receptors amplify the brain’s response to sweet flavors and heighten cravings for fatty foods.

8. B False
If you smoke cannabis, you’re still inhaling smoke into your lungs. Tar is created when plant matter burns, the smoke is hot, and there are wee pieces of ash and particles in the smoke. Smoking increases the probability of developing lung cancer. No amount is technically safe, but if you do choose to partake there are a few best practices to reduce harm: It is less risky to do short inhales rather than long deep tokes, and smoke cannabis only occasionally. Using a screen or gauze on a pipe or bong avoids hot embers, ash or particles ending up in your lungs. A low set vape is also less risky than a bong, and a store bought edible is the easiest and least risky way of them all.

9. D After each use
No one wants bugs or bacteria in their bong, so cleaning after each use is recommended. Also sterilise your pieces on a regular basis using denture cleaners you can get from the chemist or supermarkets. Using glass for your bongs (including bucket bongs) is the least risky option as well as glass is harder for bacteria to stay on than plastic.

10. D All of the above
Although overdoses are very rare with marijuana, they can happen. This is commonly known as ‘greening out’. Taking an amount over what you expected is never pleasant though. Following the suggestions above and as always “start low, go slow” greatly reduces the likelihood you’ll be in a space you don’t want to be.

12. D All of the above
Although illegal or highly regulated in many countries, cannabis sativa has a long history as being a plant with medicinal properties. People are often able to forego more dangerous pain management drugs like opiates in favour of cannabis.
